key to db error code meaning?

on a server running SQL Server 2000 we occasionally get errors. the most
frequent ones in a recent profiler trace, for example, are 208 and 1205.
i've been searching in vain for an explanation of what these mean. i found a
key to severity, but not to the meaning of the errors themselves. can
someone please point me to a guide on the subject?

thought maybe there is a summary of error message meanings (or range
categories) along the lines of what I found for "severity".
the ones we get appear to be routine. there isn't much in the ERROR.LOGs.

>|||The generic error messages are in master.dbo.sysmessages. E.G.,
Select * From master.dbo.sysmessages Where error = 208
But when you actually get the errors, SQL Server will pass back a string as
well as the error message. This string will have the parameters replaced
with actual values. For example, error 208 is invalid object name, but when
you actually get the message, it will tell you which object name was
invalid. But if whatever connection method you are using is swallowing the
error text and only returning the error number, you can look it up in
sysmessages. You can also search on it in BOL. BOL doesn't have every
error, but it gives additional info about some of them.

Keep package alive forever

Hi there,

Does anyone know how i can keep an ssis package used for real time reporting alive no matter the amount of errors it gets? So for instance the server im streaming to is shutdown for maintenance, and the connection dies, its needs to just keep re-trying. In other words the maximum error count is infinite. i dont just want to set max err count high, i want it out of the picture all together.

are you talking about a SSIS packages which do stuff inside a infinite loop?

how about replication

|||We currently replicate. but due to performance issues starting to rear their heads, we have changed our structures on our ODS to include only data marts - therefore we need to transform all that gets replicated to our ODS|||

replication should be able to catch up with that change. anyway. just stay for more suggestions.

how about scheduling the package to run regularly using a Sql jobs or windows task scheduler

KDC Problem

Hello:
A while back I started getting KDC errors in my System log on my domain
controller. The error is:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: KDC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11
Date: 3/16/2005
Time: 9:34:08 AM
User: N/A
Computer: TPADC1
Description:
There are multiple accounts with name MSSQLSvc/elvis.aviinc.local:1433 of
type 10.
After researching this I did a "ldifde" dump of the active directory
database and then searched the dump and found a double entry for
"MSSQLSvc/elvis.aviinc.local:1433". I found it duplicated on one of the
domain admins accounts. Since this appeared to be a duplicate I decided to
delete it. Within a few minutes I had problems with connections to SQL. I
put it back right away and then everything was working fine again.
Obviously the SQL server has some kind of a link to this...
I have done some searching but have not found anything on it. Does anyone
have any suggestions on cleaning this up?

|||Yes. To determine which domain account is the one that is currently being
used, we can use Adsiedit.msc to delete one of the
MSSQLSvc/elvis.aviinc.local:1433 SPNs, then *restart* the SQL service(s).
The SQL service will re-add the SPN on the currently used service account.
If it was not readded, then the duplicate has been removed.
Adsiedit.msc and Ldp.exe are included on the Windows 2000 installation CD.
You can install these tools from the CD in Support\Tools\Setup.exe

records, so check the DNS.
(ex computer name is London instead of London.nwtraders.msft ) SETSPN works
with FQDN only.

>|||Yes. To determine which domain account is the one that is currently being
used, we can use Adsiedit.msc to delete one of the
MSSQLSvc/elvis.aviinc.local:1433 SPNs, then *restart* the SQL service(s).
The SQL service will re-add the SPN on the currently used service account.
If it was not readded, then the duplicate has been removed.
Adsiedit.msc and Ldp.exe are included on the Windows 2000 installation CD.
You can install these tools from the CD in Support\Tools\Setup.exe

You may want to restart the SQL Server service after you have removed the
duplicate SPN. If the SPN is re-added, remove the other SPN and then
restart the SQL Server service.

records, so check the DNS.
(ex computer name is London instead of London.nwtraders.msft ) SETSPN works
with FQDN only.

I have found two accounts, Administrator who is an user account, and the
other account is a computer account called NS, but NS is the name of the

KDC Problem

Hello:
A while back I started getting KDC errors in my System log on my domain
controller. The error is:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: KDC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11
Date: 3/16/2005
Time: 9:34:08 AM
User: N/A
Computer: TPADC1
Description:
There are multiple accounts with name MSSQLSvc/elvis.aviinc.local:1433 of
type 10.
After researching this I did a "ldifde" dump of the active directory
database and then searched the dump and found a double entry for
"MSSQLSvc/elvis.aviinc.local:1433". I found it duplicated on one of the
domain admins accounts. Since this appeared to be a duplicate I decided to
delete it. Within a few minutes I had problems with connections to SQL. I
put it back right away and then everything was working fine again.
Obviously the SQL server has some kind of a link to this...
I have done some searching but have not found anything on it. Does anyone
have any suggestions on cleaning this up?

used, we can use Adsiedit.msc to delete one of the
MSSQLSvc/elvis.aviinc.local:1433 SPNs, then *restart* the SQL service(s).
The SQL service will re-add the SPN on the currently used service account.
If it was not readded, then the duplicate has been removed.
Adsiedit.msc and Ldp.exe are included on the Windows 2000 installation CD.
You can install these tools from the CD in Support\Tools\Setup.exe

duplicate SPN. If the SPN is re-added, remove the other SPN and then
restart the SQL Server service.
