I have sucessfully applied this patch but Automatic updates then down loads it again and agian...
I have applied it more than once now but it keeps saying that the update is ready to install.
I assume that I do not have to reinstall it again so how can I stop AU downloding it.
I have the very same problem! But sorry, I am also waiting for a solution. In the meantime I ignore AU-Install-prompting.|||I am experiencing the same problem! Have researched this issue on the Internet and have not found any solution to this ;-( I have tried uninstalling SQL Server 2005 as I don't use it but it won't let me uninstall the Express Edition and Automatic Updates keeps applying this KB921896 over and over, etc. For now my only recourse is to turn off Automatic Updates for now and turn it back on in the future to see if this keeps happening or see if someone has posted a solution...|||Same for me too.
However, the install always fails which you guys didn't mention.
So the full circle is:
1) Update is downloaded and tries to install,
2) The installation fails.
3) It then tries to install again.
It usually tries to install twice, and then asks me to send an error report, which i do. It then returns to step 1) above.
|||yeah, ditto... i am having the same problem- kb921896 keeps failing to install and so keeps telling me i need to install it... i found the log file which says "unable to install windows installer msi file"... but i don't know how to fix this to make it install properly|||I'm getting the same install loop as everyone else. However, I always get a message that the download was successful. Has anyone found a solution to this yet. I logged a ticket with the support group, but have yet to hear back from them.|||I settled the problem by going to WindowsUpdate, using the user-defined search and deactivating the specific KB921896. It never shows up again.
Good luck!
