Kill Session statement does not work

I logged in through query anayzer as system admin and then logged in a second session from a different user ID. From the sa window I issued "sp_who" and found the session id of 55 for the second logged in session. I then issued "KILL 55". When I reissued
"sp_who" it showed the session id was gone, but when I opened the user query analyzer window, I was still allowed to issue SELECT statements. Shouldnt the user session window close or leave some type of message to show that the session was logged out and
the window is no longer active?

The actual behavior is that Query Analyzer will try to reestablish the
connection when you try to execute a query against a closed connection. You
can see this with a Profiler trace. Whether or not QA should notify the
user when this occurs is debatable.
Hope this helps.

Query analyzer will establish back the connection to SQL server on issuing
any SQL / DML statements.
Thanks

Kicking off a job on another SQL server

I have a job that runs daily that creates a backup and copies that backup
off to a second server. I currently have another job running on the second
server that restores that database locally on that server. I gave the job
on server 2 enough time where job 1 on server one will have enough time to
finish before job 2 starts. That being said, sometimes, job 1 runs kind of
close. I am not sure if this is possible, but I would like to create a step
in job 1 that would kick off job 2 on server 2. Any ideas if this can be
done?
AaronHi,
There is a command in Windows Resource Kit "RCMD" , which is used to execute
jobs / executables / batch files remotely.
Thanks

Key portion of datetime 'UniqueName' varies between Trees

I have 2 trees that use the attribute Calendar date.

In the first tree, the unique name is in this format:

..[2004-02-08T00:00:00]

in the second, it does not have the T:

..[2004-02-08 00:00:00]

I guess I'm wondering why this is happening and also, how to make it so that both trees have the same format. It wasn't always this way, but something might have changed with the cube definition - I just can't see anything that would cause this. It's currently causing an issue in reporting because I convert between the tree types by slapping on the key portion of the UniqueName to the tree name. Having the T or absence of a T causes issues in this transformation.

This was found to be caused by relationship changes between attributes of one of the hierarchies.

Keeping Sections together

I have a problem with the details of the report for a record going to the second page. I have set the format option in the report "Keep sections together". But still the data for the report goes to the second page.

What else has to be done for the report to be proper? Please let me know on this.
I have tried out the option of setting it through the code as well by the code

"CR1.sectionformat(0) = "DETAIL;X;X;X;T;X;X;X"Hi
what is the size of the record? If it is of large size having many characters you may face this problem

Madhivanan|||It is a Group by report and i want the records for the particular group to be on the same page and it should not go to the next page. what are the other possibilities which i can try out. I am using CR 4.6

Help|||in the grey area of your group right click - select "change group" and check the "keep group together" option

keep together table groups

Hi.
I have a table containing two groups and a detail area.In the preview tab ,on some pages the second group and the detail area splits to different pages.I want them to be always on the same page. How can I do that?I don't know of an explicit way of keeping them together. However bear in mind that paging in the preview tab and the web will probably be different to exported or printed reports. You can try to control the paging by forcing a page break in the group properties tab.|||

Hi,

Did you have any luck with this. I have many reports that I need to keep the groupings together, but have yet to find the solution. Thanks.

|||Thanks Adam.
But if I use a page break in the group properties, there will be one group per page. And this is not a thing I want.|||

This is amazing to me also.

I've used Crystal Reports and Visual FoxPro's report writer, and both have simple checkboxes to "Keep Together" that you can set for any group.

I haven't tried it yet, but what I'm wondering is if there's a way to use a subreport (or a table inside a table row?) because you can apparently set a table to keep together...

Somebody please post if you've found a way...

Thanks.

keep together

Hi. I have two groups and a detail row in a table.First is ProductGroup, second is ProductSubgroup and the detail area's name is ProductName.
My problem is that I want to keep the detail and the ProductSubgroup (second group area) together. For example sometimes ProductSubgroup is written at the end of the page and the detail area is on the next page or the ProductGroup (first group area) is written at the end of page and the ProductSubgroup (second group area) is written on the next page. And I don't want this. But for example the ProductSubgroup area contains too many detail rows and this time I want to split the records two pages.I hope you help me.Thanks! There are a couple way that you can mitigate this issue--at least part of it--of table groups being split across pages.

The first way is to use nested Lists, where

the inner list is set to be kept together on the same page, if

possible. Unlike Tables where only the Table itself can be set to be kept together, each of the nested lists can be set to be kept together. This is a checkbox at the bottom of the general tab of the

List properties dialog in the ReportDesigner.

The second potential resolution would be

enable RepeatGroupHeaders and/or footers, so that at

least the continuation of the group on subsequent pages will contain the header and/or

footer on all pages the group spans. This is a checkbox at bottom of the

general tab of the Grouping and Sorting property dialog.|||

Hi Ian,

What would be the overhead in terms of performance for processing the nested lists ?

I tried adding a nested table for a similar issue and the performance overhead was about 10mSec for processing a report that contained that had about 44 Rows (rows returned by the query). I got this figures using the Report Execution Log.

Ashish

Keep textbox to a single line

I have a text box and I would like the data to truncate if it doesn't
fit in a single line.
Right now it flows onto a second line.
I have CanGrow and CanShrink both set to false.
I don't see a property to set the box to single line. Is there a way
to do this?I have always solved this by setting the padding & font size to prevent
that wrapped text from being visible. See this post:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.reportingsvcs/browse_frm/thread/a3a1f2448758591d?hl=en
I hope that works for you.
